Keeping Current With The Statistics And Facts About Clergy Abuse

We at White Law PLLC strive to keep our community current on the facts about clergy abuse, here in our state of Michigan. Now more than ever have survivors of abuse been succeeding in holding their attackers responsible for their actions.

If you or a loved one has suffered at the hands of a member of the clergy, our attorneys want you to know what you can expect to experience from the current legal climate.

What You Should Know About Past Abusers

This kind of terrible abuse started in the 1960s and peaked in the 1980s; it has been in a steady decline ever since. Although there has been a 40 percent decline in these cases, there are still many young children that suffer at the hands of trusted individuals, but their time has come.

You may feel like you will not be able to bring your abuser to justice, but in June of 2018, a Vatican diplomat received a sentence to prison for five years over child pornography charges. The following August, a Pennsylvania grand jury had named over 300 clergy members in a report that found over 1,000 kids that had survived abuse.

Also, in August of 2018, in Lansing, the Michigan Attorney General's office opened an investigation into sexual abuse by the Catholic church clergy going as far back as 1950. This investigation includes any priest that has worked in the state, and will also look into the cover up of any abuse or assault.

We know how hard it is to relive the past, which is why we offer caring and compassionate representation to our clients.
